1 week to go

Wth just 1 week to go until the festival weekend, we are super busy getting all of the project work ready!!
Look what we have been up to!!...

Wednesday, 29 June 2011

The final stages of the prep work for the project are being made this week, making plenty of time to sew on all of the collected leaves and flowers to start the project off before the festival starts in August.

If you are coming along to the festival, you will already see lots of contributions thats have been added on and you will also be able to add to them by embroidering, knitting, crochet and embellishing straight on to the padded letters if you wish!!
We can't wait to invite you all to take part :o)

Here are just a few pics from the studio - the final letter has been stuffed, and the backings have gone on each letter to neaten and secure everything ready for the festival.

Taking shape...

The letters are all nearly stuffed! I have loads of woolly foliage to add to the giant letter shapes pin cushions and I can't wait to share it all with you at the festival!

Don't forget, if you haven't got time to send in your knitted or crocheted flowers to me at the studio, you can always bring them with you to the festival if you are coming along and sew them to the project yourself!

I'll also have lots of wool, buttons, beads and fabrics with us at the festival, so you can come and rest your feet, have a few minutes to your self and take part in our fibre craft workshop and make something for the project at the festival :o)

Here are some photos of how the project is coming together. I've already sewn a few knitted and crocheted pieces on to the pin cushions so you can see what will happen to your crafty contributions! :)

North west is best :)

Many thanks to Jacky for sending in these three gorgeous knitted flowers, they are really stunning!!
Jacky writes the blog Northwest Is Best, you can view her blog by clicking on the link below.
And, I'm sure you'll agree that Northwest Is Best is one of the loveliest blogs around!

Stuffing..

More prep work on the JUST SO! sculpture has taken place in the studio thi sweek. I have started padding out the letters for the sculpture and I couldn't resist sewing on one or two little crocheted flowers to get an idea of how the sculpture will come together.

Thank you :o)

Here are some photos of some beautifully knitted flowers, leaves and bugs that have been sent in to the ArtYarn studio.

Firstly,
Many thanks to Stephanie who has knitted some lovely, bright flowers for the collaborative Just So! sculpture..

And thank you to Edna who has knitted a range of flowers, leaves and a charming little lady bird - they will look brill on the sculpture too!

Knit a leaf....

Here is a great link for a lovely little knitted leaf pattern.. and it's completely free!!
If you have just started knitting it's a great little project to learn some new techniques and to try something a little different.

We'd love to decorate the collaborative sculpture with loads of pretty woolly leaves. You could use this pattern to knit a leaf, and try out lots of different shades of green, brown, red and even white if you wish. Then, send it along to us or bring it to the festival if you are coming along too :o)

More floral delights!

We have loads more flowers and leaves to add to the collaborative JUST SO! sculpture, and we're busy making even more. We have also roped in the ever eager Kings Arms Knitting Club  (from Salford, Lancashire) to lend a hand and we have received some beautiful  woolly leaves, flower and bugs in the post too - all of which we will photograph in the studio this week and share with you here.

For now, heres a few shots of the flowers we have been creating...

Letters!

The letters for the installation have arrived, and they are SO must better than I had expected!!! Now i'm really excited about getting them covered with fabric and turning them into giant letter shaped pin cushions. The letters were purchased from Infinite Crafts in the UK.

And, work has begun on preparing some woolly foliage to dress the installation, we hope you will join in and make your own to pin onto the sculpture.

Take a look around the blog and see how you can TAKE PART!!

New knitting patterns added...

The work for ArtYarn's Just So Festival knitting project is really coming together now, with our preparations for the sculpture really progressing forward.

We have ordered some specially cut and designed wooden letters; we've been collecting loads of old fabrics to turn the letters into pincushions, and we've been crocheting and knitting loads of flowers and nature inspired woolly creations.
We'll have some pictures in the next few days when we go into the studio to take some photos to show you!
Until then, we have been selecting some of our most favorite patterns, which are completely free from a selection of websites and blogs. We hope you enjoy looking through them and hopefully you can make one or two for the participatory project that will be on show at this years festival.

If you would like to learn how to knit, we have a 'how to knit and crochet' resource page at the top of this page. Alternatively you could look up your local knitting and crochet clubs to get some help and inspiration.
ArtYarn will also be on hand to teach you how to knit at this years festival, you will be able to make something over the festival weekend to add to the project too :o)

We'll be adding lots more patterns to the blog very soon... keep posted :o)
